More so than direct intelligence, a player's ability recognize favorable positional relationships between the game pieces and board creates skill in chess.
This set took inspiration from low-poly stealth aesthetics, primitive sculpting techniques, and "dazzle" camouflage employed by the Navy to create a game in which that ability to recognize spatial relationships is hindered -- creating intentional confusion for both players.
